2020 UNDP Ghana Annual Report
Aug 30, 2021
In 2020, we entered the decade of action for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). As the world began to take stock and mobilize integrated solutions to accelerate progress towards the SDGs, a global pandemic emerged. And UNDP has worked hard to support countries to Prepare, Respond, Recover and look Beyond Recovery from COVID 19, Towards the 2030 Agenda for sustainable development.
In Ghana, we reprogrammed some of our resources and worked in close coordination with the UN system and our Government partners to:
- assess the socio-economic impacts of COVID-19
- support effective health care waste management, and
- enhance inclusive communication on risks and prevention
In the midst of fighting the pandemic, we did not lose sight of the SDGs. With thanks to the leadership from the government and support of all our partners, we continued to implement various interventions under our three core programme areas: environment and climate change, governance and peace building, and inclusive development.
Despite the odds, we registered success in ensuring that health systems and the vulnerable in selected communities had access to tools, information, and incentives to remain resilient.
We provided data on the impacts of the pandemic on businesses and the local economy, to inform the Government of Ghana’s COVID-19 Alleviation and Revitalization of Enterprise Support (Ghana CARES) programme.
The support we provided was also critical in advancing peace during the 2020 elections.
Finally, we helped the Government to raise the level of ambition on climate change and build community resilience through our climate promise.
