Gender Policy Dialogue

The “Nkitahodie” Policy Dialogue on Gender, titled “Gender Equality and Women’s Participation in Politics and Political Processes in Ghana: The Role of Political Parties,” forms part of UNDP’s J-PASS project, which aims to deconstruct the role of political parties in promoting gender equal political participation, while also highlighting the of political parties in supporting women’s inclusion and participation in politics at all levels.

The first edition of the “Nkitahodie” Policy Dialogue series was organized in partnership with the Gender Centre for Empowering Development (GenCED) and SHEROES Foundation, and attached over 150 participants from political parties, civil society, the academic, global embassies and high commissions, development partners and government institutions, including the Department of Gender.

Female Parliamentary Candidate for the 2016 elections were mobilised to participation and share their practical insights and struggle to participate and compete with men. Policy makers and politicians from five main political parties in Ghana participated in the Dialogue. The Dialogue interrogated the challenges and obstacles to women political participation in Ghana and came up with policy recommendations.
